About the Expert: Shri Uday Vora, is very well known wildlifer among the forest officers in Gujarat Forest Department. After completing M.Sc. Botany from Saurashtra University in 1979, he worked as field collector in Sir P. P. Institute of Science, Bhavnagar for three years. In 1982, he joined Gujarat Forest Service as ACF. He has obtained his Diploma in Forestry from State Forest Service College, Dehradun in 1984. He also possesses a diploma in Wildlife Management from Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun (1986) and M. Phil. in Natural Resource Management, IIFM Bhopal (1995). He was awarded Medal for writing “Best Management Plan” and was judged as “Best All Round Wildlifer” during his diploma course at Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun. He had been nominated to Indian Forest Service with 1998 as year of allotment. He has more than 15 research papers on his credit and contributed in preparations of management plans for several protected areas of Gujarat. Uday has first ever reported the nesting of lesser flamingo in Little Rann of Kachchh in 1984. He was instrumental in declaration of eight wetlands under MoEF‟s scheme of “Wetlands of National Importance” and declaration of Nal Sarovar as “Ramsar Site”. Since it‟s first ever exercise in 1992, Uday had been technical coordinator of all the biannual census of water birds in Nal Sarovar and Thol bird sanctuaries in Gujarat. He has always encouraged and helped researchers in conducting various studies related to wildlife. He is also associated with Youth Hostels Association of India since last 25 years and organized various trekking programmes in the State as well as in Himalayas. He retired as Chief Conservator of Forests, wildlife on 31/05/2017.
